OCR: Macintosh TROUBLE SHOOTER The ATM control panel is used mainly for postscript programs, eg. desktop publishing and Adobe's Acrobat Reader + Distiller applications (these view and make PDF files (Portable Document Files)). It is used for one purpose, to accurately render postscript fonts on- screen, so that you don't have to run out lots and lots of proofs just so that you know all type is positioned properly. This was how page layouts on computers used be done, because 1) ATM was not available, & 2) It had to be done with the fixed bitmap screen fonts, that came supplied in the Suitcases (these are not scalable). Control Panels: Adobe Type Manager When setting up the ATM control panel, I suggest you increase the Cache to 512k or even imb. Nowadays, ATM comes with most Adobe products, and also in the ATM Deluxe package. Newer style, obviously with some more options, eg. font smoothing (anti-aliasing).
